Our final idea

We have decided on the final ideas of our production. for the start of out production we are using black and white colors. therefore this emphasizes sadness and also emphasis that she is emotionless to the audience, we also thought that we would use a wide range of close ups n the character therefore this shows the protagonists emotions therefore the audience will know the character and what she is feeling. Furthermore, when the first chorus is introduced we thought that this would be the perfect timing to introduce the colors into the video as it highlights that her life is still carrying on and that the burst of colors are her different emotions coming through. then towards the end of the music video have all of the different colors come together at once therefore this then foreshadows her emotions and feeling all coming back to her and she feels more strong and powerful.

Calvin harris 'how deep is your love'

For our final production we wanted to use a wide range of locations in our production. therefore we looked at the music video 'How deep is your love' by Calvin Harris and we liked the idea of having different locations associated with different colors therefore we decided that we were going to interrupt this into our work with using block colors to overlay our shots. Therefore we thought that this would give a light and happy feel to our production.

The bridge

in my media class we looked at a documentary called the bridge. this was a very interesting documentary to watch as it shows the conventions of people taking there own lives. we watched the introduction of the documentary, then decided to have a group discussion about the opening sequence. There were some ideas from students in that they thought that it was wrong for the film maker Eric steel to film people taking there lives. however it was then discussed that this an issue that needs to be touched on and spoken about. this was helpful for out production as similar to Eric steels film making sia uses the same ideas in that her work is controversial in what she should and should not show. therefore watching this documentary then helped us further our audience research

Sia

For our A2 production pitch we have decided to a dance music video to Sia 'alive'. we decided to use sia's music because the conventions of her music videos are very controversial. sia produces music videos on everyday issues that most people find hard to talk, however sia decides to use this and to portray these problems through dance videos. This then leads to people having there own opinions on the matter. this can then lead to conflict for the artist, for example on her music video 'Elastic heart' the content of this raised a lot of issues and disturbance for the audience. However sia thought that she was showing emotional content. others had commented her video to be art. this is the reason in why we decided to choose Sia's music as we wanted to create that controversial view on our videos in that it in open to any story line.

here are some examples of sia's music videos:

AS production review

Synopsis

the storyline of mine Ruari, Ciaran and Mollie's production was that we had a young female with supernatural dark side;  her human figure is shown as a normal girly side (stereotypical girl) and he supernatural side is that she turns into a werewolf, this is when her human figure completely contrasts with her supernatural form and the opening sequence gives the audience a shock as they would not of thought that she would be a strong independent character with a dark side as when we introduce her in the opening sequence we portray her to look vulnerable and weak whilst she is going on with her daily routine, the camera follows her through her getting ready. whilst the protagonist is getting dressed she switches on the radio. this part of our opening sequence was key. this is because, the new reported on the radio gives out information on what has happened in the town that she has lived in, this then plays on the audiences mind. the camera then follows the protagonist on her run, this part of the opening sequence is also key. this is because following the news repot on the radio this then makes the protagonist immediately feel threatened and vulnerable. furthermore this then makes the audience feel on edge for the character. however, then towards the end of the opening sequences it is then revealed to the audience that there is an obvious twist and it throws them off. leading them into wanting to know more and to watch the rest of our production.

succession of the piece

Sound- for my as media production me and my group wanted to create a dark/ twisted feel towards it. for the start of our production we decided to keep it very plain by having no sound only have diegetic sounds. we keep this throughout the news report,  we didn't not want to have any overlapping background soundtracks. this is because we wanted the audience to know that this was very important part of out production and that it is highlighted through having nothing interfere with the radio we thought that this would be very effective as it adds realism to the piece in that this is her everyday routine and it gives that normality to the movie in that it felt natural for the audience. After the news report had finished we immediately wanted to create that dark atmosphere  but also something that looked like the protagonist would listen to in her headphones as she ran. therefore we found a sound track that fitted perfectly for that and I believe that this made an important impact on the productions as it automatically created that dark vibe and made the audience feel slightly unconfutable.

camera, shots, angles and movements- we used a wide range of different camera angle, shots and movements in out final production for example we decides to use a lot of high angle shots this is so that it shows the audience that the protagonist is shown as a weak character and through using the high angle shot it shows that she is very vulnerable. we also use a lot of medium close ups and long shots, this is because we did not want to give too much of the character away at the start we wanted the protagonist to seem distant and we did not want to give too much away about her characteristics, therefore we thought it was best to show this through using distant shots. making the audience feel more intrigued  into the protagonist, making them feel worried and uncomfortable about what is to happen next. At the end of our production we decided to finish it with a close up and the character running into the camera, we thought that this was a clever idea as then it throws the audience off and leading them wanting to find out more.

Mise-en-scene - i thought that the mise-en-scene of my production was also very successful. for example, for the characters costume we wanted to keep it simple and have some dark elements into the protagonists clothes. this then emphasizes that she is very distant, it also shows that we did not want to give to much away of the character and the darker clothes also foreshadow her other supernatural dark side. another example of how our mise en scene was successful is through the lighting. we decided to keep the lighting fairly dark, therefore it gives a more sinister and horror feel to the production

Editing- the editing of our production went smoothly everything came together really nicely and our production had a flow to it. we also added things to the production that makes it feel more like an actual production for example we added titles into our opening sequence. furthermore we also added a blue/grey color treatment to our shots. this is because it gave the atmosphere that it is a cold and a sinister feel to the production. however it also justify's to the audience that there inst something right and then this makes them feel on edge

Area needed for improvement
the area that i felt needed most improving was probably the sound. there were parts of the production in which i thought we could of been more creative with the sounds. for example at the end of our production we could of made some of our own sounds of the wolf howl at the end, but due to little time if editing we decided to find one of the internet that we could insert into out editing tool. the problem with using the internet made wolf how, it gave the production an unrealistic feel towards the end and it did not sound much like a wolf but however due to the camera composition you could get a clear idea of that this is what we were trying to portray.
