Holi festival

The Holi festival of colours is also known as the festival of love. Holi is an annual Hindu tradition observed predominantly in India, Nepal and south Asia but adopted across the world, including the UK.The date varies but is always marked on the full moon, starting with a Holika bonfire with singing and dancing. The next day, the streets explode with colour as people turn out armed with water balloons, water guns and dry coloured powder. The festival marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring by highlighting positives, play, laughter and forgiveness.

the Holi festival has been a huge inspiration to our music video and has mainly given us the inspiration of colour for our main task. in that the holi festival represents and celebrates love. therefore for our music video we wanted to interpret this as our video has a love story. however our story isnt happy and this will be represented at the start, but she starts to come alive and we wanted the burst of colours to represent her celebrating her love story and her coming back to 'life'.

Zara Larsson 'lush life' music video

For our main task we wanted to interpret lots of colors into our music video. we want to do this by our locations having theme in the video (which his shown in my Calvin Harris blog). however we have also taking inspiration from Zara Larssons 'lush life' music video in which, i like the ideas of the medium shots of the singer has overlapping colors on them. i thought that this would be very effective as it shows the burst and the mix of emotions that the protagonist it experiencing. i think that this music video has given much inspiration into what i would like to include into my media product.  here is the official music video to Zara Larsson's 'lush life':

Quadrophenia

How is youth culture represented in Quadrophenia?

in my media class we have been looking at the representation of youth culture in the media. we watch a yuth culture film and then write up an essay on how the media represents young people, we then apply some media theorists to support the films idea and representation on youth culture. here is a sample of my essay on the movie 'Quadrophenia':

In the 1960’s there was a very popular split between the youth culture in that they either identified themselves as mods or rockers. Mods are young people who tend to show themselves as very stylish. The women who identified themselves as mods would typically pick out outfits that they had seen in magazines, they would buy the material they needed and recreate the look. The young men wear tailored suits that are slim fitted, they as short haircuts and they were always well groomed, all of their transports was either lambretta’s or Vespa’s, they would sometimes get involved with drugs. Most of the mods looks were inspired by European fashion. However, in contrast to the mods, the rockers were identified as wearing a lot of leather, especially leather jackets and big biker boots. They are also known for their loud motor bikes and there heavy drinking. Both youth cultural identities were seen as odd to the older generation as they did not understand there mod identity. This is because the 1960’s was post war therefore the older generation would have been young at the time during the war resulting in them not having much experience and time during their youth. this then represents the young people to be very rebellious to  what there parents dressed and acted when they were in there youth

Casting/auditions

For my final production we wanted the protagonist of the music video t have all of the right qualities that we needed in order to make our production successful. we wanted to have a dancer that would meet our expectation in being very emotional though her movements. however it was especially important that the dancer could also portray her emotions through her facial expressions whilst she was dancing therefore this meant that we could get a range of close ups shots on the dancer.

we held many auditions on a short section f a set dance. the dancing style was a very character/commercial dance, we though that this type of dancing audition would be best as we get to see all the potential in the dancers in that we not only get to see there dancing characteristics, but also there acting side. the auditions consisted of 7 contestants.

we then nailed this down to just two of the contestants and then got them to perform a duet to the opening of our music video, but we then put a twist into the audition in that we used the dance to a different soundtrack, we decided to do this as it pushes the dancers to there full potential and we wanted to see how well they were at improvising with there facial expressions.
